Overview

Library Globe from the Age of Enlightenment. A replica of one of the exquisite globes produced by the father and son cartographic team of Gilles and Didier de Vaugondy in the Kingdom of France during the heyday of the French Enlightenment in the 1700s - the age of Voltaire, Diderot, d'Alembert, Rousseau . . .  and our own Benjamin Franklin. Bask in the atmosphere of intellectual audacity whose motto was summed up by Immanuel Kant as: "Sapere aude!" "Dare to know!" Like original Vaugondy globes, this sphere is of papier mâché and finished in plaster of Paris. Fitted in a bronze frame, it rests in a rich, classic wood floor stand with a honey distressed French finish. The stand disassembles into two pieces for easy shipping. ***THIS PRODUCT IS SHIPPED DIRECTLY FROM AUTHENTIC MODELS*** Size: 48cm x 48cm x 96cm.
