1/72 Scale Consolidated PBY-5A Catalina. Airfix. The amphibious Catalina entered service in 1939 and was immediately successful in its various roles. Provided to the British by the still-"neutral" United States under public arrangements (with secret provisos to supply US Navy personnel as well), a Catalina with an American pilot Squadron spotted the Bismarck during the famous action in the summer of 1941. In the course of World War II, 196 U-Boats were destroyed thanks to the work of the Catalinas. The US Navy flew 'Black Cats' to harass Japanese naval vessels at night. This US-built flying boat, served in maritime patrol and bomber aircraft. Kit has raised rivet and panel detail, basic cockpit and fuselage waist interiors, 4 aircrew, 4 underwing bombs, boarding ladder, optional position landing gear, hinged control surfaces, wingtip floats and observation blister panels. Decals and painting reference for two (2) aircraft: US Navy 'Black Cat', Solomon Islands, 1942-43; and RAF Coastal Command Catalina IIIA.
