The Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress is a four-engine heavy bomber developed in the 1930s for the United States Army Air Corps (USAAC). Competing against Douglas and Martin for a contract to build 200 bombers, the Boeing entry outperformed both competitors and exceeded the air corps' performance specifications. Although Boeing lost the contract because the prototype crashed, the air corps ordered 13 more B-17s for further evaluation. Kit features engraved panel lines, fully appointed and detailed fuselage interior (cockpit, radio/navigation compartment, bombardier's station, waist, bomb bay with 4 bombs and optional bomb bay door), reinforcing central wing spars, detailed radial engines with optional cowling flaps, rotatable turrets, single piece propellers with spinners, separate trailing edge flaps, detailed wheel wells and optional undercarriage, transparent accents (cockpit canopy and turret glazing's, landing lights and cabin door). Decals and color markings for (2) aircraft: 43-37521 'Skyway Chariot', 351st Bomb Squadron, 100th Bomb Group, Eighth Air Force, United Stares Army Air Force, Royal Air Force Thorpe Abbotts, Norfolk, England, March 1945 and 43-37993 'Mah Ideel' 324th Bomb Squadron, 91st Bomb Group, Eighth Air Force, United States Army Air Force, Royal Air Force Bassingbourn, Cambridgeshire, England, early 1945 - includes stencil data, propeller and weapons data and markings, instrument panel and other accents.
