Air Force Legends 218; Carey. Lockheed F-94 Starfire was a first-generation jet aircraft of the United States Air Force. The aircraft reached operational service in May 1950 with Air Defense Command, replacing the propeller-driven North American F-82 Twin Mustang in the all-weather interceptor role. The F-94 was derived from the TF-80C (later T-33A Shooting Star) which was a two-seat trainer version of the F-80 Shooting Star. Since the conversion seemed so simple, a contract was awarded to Lockheed in early 1949, with the first flight on 16 April 1949. Book includes interior armament, station diagrams, access panels, nose guns, gun chargers, gun pod details, radar installation, serial numbers, fire control system, rockets and rocket doors, wing tip fuel tanks, cockpits, canopy details, landing gear, engines and squadrons. Includes Starfire review kits by: Comet/Addar, Revell, Aurora, Lindberg, Heller, Hobbycraft, Emhar, Sword and Kitty Hawk. Also includes the 1957 publicity stills from the movie 'Jet Pilot' of John Wayne and Janet Leigh on and in the cockpit seat of a F-94A-1-LO #49-2479. Illustrated with well over 100 black/white photos, 161 pages.
