As one of the leading aircraft for paratroop missions during World War II, the Douglas Skytrain boasted specs that demanded recognition. It had a maximum speed of 224mph, a top range of 1,391 nautical miles, and a service ceiling of 26,400ft. First flown in December 1941, the plane went on to serve in the post-war era and even today soldiers on in various countries around the world. The aircraft is usually flown by a five-man team. The C-47 Skytrain has a payload of about 6,000 lbs, which roughly translates to an 18-paratrooper capacity. With such specs, it is to be expected that the aircraft was widely employed across the globe. To name one event, the C-47 aircraft was aircraft used in 1948 to fly about 7,000 lbs of candy to Berlin as a Christmas present for the children.
