Product Code:

1/72 Scale Fairey Swordfish Mk.I. Airfix. Introduced in the British Fleet Air Arm, then under the Royal Air Force (RAF) in 1936, this Interwar British carrier-capable torpedo-bomber. Dubbed the "Stringbag," the biplane went on to play a significant role in World War II. Swordfish were able to cripple the German Battleship Bismarck, they took part in the sinking of the French fleet at Mers el-Kebir to prevent its being surrendered to the Germans, and Swordfish played a major role in sinking the Italian fleet at Taranto - an operation that inspired the Japanese to use torpedo bombers in an attack on another shallow port - Pearl Harbor. This kit features excellent fabric over frame effects, engraved panel lines, well detailed cockpit and gunner's station, separate internal framing, detailed radial engine with separate collector ring, separately molded control surfaces, optional folded or extended wings, wing assembly jig, injection-molded windscreen, torpedo (with handling trolley), drop tank and 100-lb bombs (x6). Included are decals and color painting reference for two (2) Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm aircraft: K8393 of 824 Naval Air Squadron, HMS Eagle, operation Judgment, Taranto, 11-12 November 1940; and K8449 of 820 Naval Air Squadron, HMS Courageous, March 1939.
